In operation since 1972, Covington Aircraft Radial Engine Division is one of the largest R-985 / R-1340 overhaul facilities in the world. This honor is due to our customers continuous satisfaction, and now results in the completion of one engine overhaul for almost every working day of the year.

Non-Destructive Testing - One of the most important checks is the magnaflux inspection, which utilizes a special solution and ultra-violet light to detect even the smallest hairline cracks |

Machine Shop - For new parts that might require minor adjustment or for grinding a used, serviceable part, our machine shop is equipped with the very latest machines to get the job done. |

Magneto Overhaul - Magnetos are rebuilt and checked thoroughly. |

Blower Assembly - Impellers and shafts are dynamically balanced using state-of-the-art computer controlled equipment prior to blower assembly. |

Crankshaft Assembly - New crankshafts and bearings are now available in Covington rebuilt engines. Crankshafts are balanced with the same computer controlled equipment we use for the blower assembly. Link rods are rebushed and line reamed. |

Cylinder Shop - Cylinders are chrome with a taper bore. The barrel section is aluminum coated to help prevent rust. |

Final Assembly and Testing - Final assembly takes place under the watchful eye of the on-site Quality Control Supervisor. When assembly is complete, the engine is sent to one of two radial engine test facilities for it's test run. The engine then receives a final quality control inspection and is shipped to the customer. |

In addition to supplying overhauled engines, we also repair customers engines. We will perform major and minor repairs, sudden stoppage inspections, 100 hours on the wing, etc. We offer field service or will work on your engine "on the wing" in our hanger. We are able to respond to AOG situations with our customers maintenance or parts. We also offer a complete line of engine accessories, including magnetos, carburetors, and cylinders, available exchange or outright.
