TURBINE ENGINES

Covington Aircraft Turbine Division is a Pratt & Whitney Canada Service Center, specializing in the overhaul and repair of the PT6A Turboprop engine. We are Pratt & Whitney's only Agricultural Service Center in the world.

At Covington we have a complete, modern facility to ensure the very best quality work is performed, with the shortest possible turn-around time, to keep our customers in the air. We have full overhaul capability, but will do 100 hour inspections and hot section work on the wing, in our hanger. We can also come to you, the customer, for major work or engine removals and installations. We maintain an extensive rental pool of engines, available to keep you flying while your engine is repaired.

We also do bore scope inspections, we have an STC to convert -15 and -27 engines to a -34 engine, we offer Pratt & Whitney schools for customer training and support, and we offer a full line of replacement parts.

Our facility includes the very latest equipment to provide our customer with the best service possible.

Cleaning System - We use state-of-the-art heated, alkaline based, parts cleaning solutions to preclude the loss of metal inherent to acid based solutions. There are different stages and solutions for the various metals used in the PT6A engine.

Non-Destructive Testing - We utilize 3 different stages of liquid dye penetrant test and the magnaflux test to detect flaws in all critical parts prior to re-use.

Machine Shop - Our zero grind hot section inspection is performed with components bolted to a "blind plate." The torquing of components during engine assembly places stresses on them that cause slight distortion. By simulating those stresses during our inspection process, we ensure tighter adherence to manufacturers specifications after engine assembly.

Balancing - All rotating components are balanced on our in-house, computer controlled, balancing equipment.

Vane Ring Classification - We have the ability to check and change classifications of vane rings using our new Dual-Sonic (twice the speed of sound), computer controlled, air nozzle machine. We perform this service for other companies in the aviation industry as well as our own customers.

Testing - Completed engines move to our ultra-modern, "computer data acquisition," test cell. In the test cell, two different computers work together to gather, analyze, and display data on engine temperatures, pressures, rpm, vibration, and fuel consumption. The data gathered is then compared to the manufacturers overhaul specifications to certify a quality rebuild.
